CCSC Cruisers (Past) » Making Best Use of Your Radio
We learnt about MMSI calling last year but some struggled to get this working on their boat handsets. So this year we thought we'd bring in some shared practical experience by using real radios on real boats.
The evening will take place on 2 boats in Weymouth marina, where we can experience and practice calling each other using DSC channel 70, adding in MMSI numbers and calling boats where an individual or group MMSI number is known. Listen to what an incoming DSC call would sound like, know how to respond and the full range of options DSC offers.
We will also do a little reminder on all the radio channels we might use, radio language key words as well as Securite, Pan Pan and Mayday calls and relaying these calls. Most of us have experience of hearing or participating in some of these calls, so come and share your experiences.
We will meet at 7pm outside the Boatfolk Marina office, Commercial Road, Weymouth, DT4 8NA. Parking is available next door in the harbourside car park (also DT4 8NA), which is free after 6pm.
Numbers are limited to 20 people, so please book your place below (you will need to be logged in)
Refreshments will be available on the 2 boats (Edelweiss and Peccadillo) being used for the evening.
