CCSC Cruisers » Seamanship Weekend

An opportunity to brush up on those skills that have been unused over the winter months, and get back out on the water.

A relaxed Saturday starting in the Clubhouse at 0930 for coffee and a briefing, before going afloat to practice various manoeuvres under sail and power.

This years focus will be a combination of the usuals (reefing, heave to, berthing practice etc..) as well as some new techniques (towing other keelboats, transfers between boats at sea and reverse steering skills)

This event is open to All; skippers, regular crew and newbie crew who would like to try some cruising (we will allocate newbie crew to boats nearer the time)

Sat evening will be booked berths at Portland marina for the night and a group meal eating out somewhere.

On Sunday morning, opportunity to practice more manoeuvres or berthing, and the possibility of a local short sail along the beautiful Dorset coast (if weather favourable)

This is a popular event full of helpful hints and tips, and a chance to make sure all the boat systems are in good order for the 2026 sailing season.

Come for the seamanship and the supper or just one or the other.....
