Martin ran his own practice in Dorchester for many years and was joined by Dave Cumber to form Fielding and Cumber Veterinary Practice and moved to Weymouth. He has been retired for some years now and enjoys speaking and relating stories from his time as a vet. Along with his wife Sally he has been a member of Castle Cove Sailing Club since the 1980s and though a non sailor for a long time Sally (along with their three sons) eventually convinced him of the joys of sailing and he now races a Laser 2000 in the Club. His other hobbies include constructing amusing models out of a variety of materials and he is very involved in the life of his home village Langton Herring.
