Overview

DUTY ROTA

  1. Dates: The roster for racing will be published on the club website under Portal > Duty roster. You will need to log in to see the details and select your duties. This will be the official list of duties that will be maintained throughout the year. Please check and note your dates Portal - My Duties
  2. Reminders: You will be reminded by email of your allotted duty 28 and 7 days before your duty. Please make sure your contact details are up to date on the website and see 7. below if you are unable to access it.
  3. Duty selection: You are able able to select your own duties either by attending the first few winter working parties or online through the website (Portal > Duty Roster). Dates when this can be done will be advertised by the duties coordination team early each calendar year. Once the self-selection period has ended, the duties coordination team will allocate the remaining duties.
  4. Confirmation: If prompted by email, please follow the link to acknowledge that you are able to undertake your duties.
  5. Swaps: If you cannot manage a date it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with someone doing a similar duty. This can be done on the website under Portal - My Duties.and clicking the green "Request a swap" button. This will generate a list of possible swaps that will be requested from other members. If you arrange a swap directly with another member, please advise the Duties Coordination Team (duties@ccsc.org.uk) of the details so that the roster can be updated.
  6. Guidance: instructions for selecting and swapping duties, together with guidance on duty requirements are available in the Duties area of the website.
  7. If you have forgotten your website access details (username and/or password) then please follow the "Forgotten password?" link on the login page, https://www.ccsc.org.uk/login.

Read through notes in handbook, check the WEBSITE Calendar - the schedule may have been updated since the Handbook was printed.
Contact the team to check they will be there and arrange meet time and place

A.R.O (Assistant Race Officer)

All days

Ready to go afloat at least one hour before 1st Start time

The Duty is to assist the R.O , who will lead the committee boat team and will advise .
Usually there will be more than one assistant ,tasks are recording results / hoisting the flags and doing the results admin with the R.O after the races etc
Bring personal buoyancy + appropriate clothing

Safety Driver

All days

Ready to go afloat at least one hour before 1st Start time

Liaise with R.O and " Idler " driver
Book out / Book in boats and radios following the procedure in chart room

Safety Crew

All days

Ready to go afloat at least one hour before 1st Start time

Liaise with R.O and " Idler " driver and your safety boat driver .
Preferred is that Buoyancy aid is worn rather than an inflating life-jacket + appropriate clothing.

Essential that safety boat can stay on station until all dinghies are ashore. Crew needing to come ashore because too cold or a life-jacket has inflated or other reason is a scenario that needs to be avoided.

Mark Layer Driver

Weekends and Bank Holiday

Ready to go afloat at least one hour before the 1st start time.

This duty is new for 2026 and is to assist the RO in laying the course. You will need to be PB2 qualified and ideally have an understanding of sailing racecourses windward, leeward and gybe marks as well as their relationship with the wind direction. You will also be laying the start line for the RO. Personal buoyancy must be worn. It can get a little wet and dirty when the buoys and anchors are brought back into the boat.

Mark Layer Crew

All Days

Ready to go afloat at least one hour before the 1st start time.

During the week you will be assisting our paid mark layer, Nick, to lay courses and at other times you will be helping a fellow member who will be driving. You will be lifting anchors and the buoys it can get a little wet and dirty when they are brought back on to the boat. You need to be reasonably physically able to perform this duty. Personal buoyancy must be worn.

Imogen Driver

All days

At least one hour before 1st Start time

May be the Race Officer, needs to be approved driver either "Mooring" or "Pontoon" depends on time of year and where "Imogen" the committee boat is being kept .
[This is a duty that cruiser skippers who are not racers can contribute their boat-manship skills to the club.]

Bar

Monday and Wednesday

7:30pm onwards

Assisting running the bar - a good chance to learn how to operate the bar.




Weekends

After start time: 1 race day 1.5 hours 2 race day 2 hours 3 race day 3 hours Cup Races check with RO.

Weekends Please use the blue folder to guide you through the bar duty and operating the till. Keep the bar open until late afternoon/early evening unless everyone has gone home. Please leave the bar in a tidy and clean state.

Galley

Monday

7pm onwards

Serving food for external caterers they will tell you what to do when you get there.

Wednesday

7pm onwards

Serving food for external caterers they will tell you what to do when you get there.

Weekends

First name on the list is the duty lead Please contact them to arrange time to meet at the club.

Do whatever food you feel comfortable doing. Sailors love hot food but if you are not confident catering for numbers, sarnies etc are great. Some of the easiest and quickest options are soup, pasta and sauce, pizza or jacket potatoes, especially when it is cold.
