The South Coast Bottlenose Dolphin Consortium is undertaking a citizen science project collating sighting of Bottlenose dolphins along the south coast. The group are asking that all sightings of Bottlenose Dolphins from North Cornwall to East Sussex are reported to SCbottlenosedolphins@outlook.com.
The South Coast population is widely ranging and only contains 40 individuals so can be very hard to research, however this research is integral for the conservation of this small population. Therefore the group are asking citizens to get involved by reporting their sightings of Bottlenose Dolphins with the date, location and high-quality images of the fin.
The SWBDC are also able to give webinars/ in-person guest lectures about this population and how everyone can get involved to conserve them.
We have attached some documents that will be useful for club members or any member of the public to assist with recording and submitting any sightings in Portland harbour, Weymouth Bay or off shore in the relevant areas.
