Yarmouth May 23
Yarmouth | 26 - 29 May 2023
This year's early season cruise to Yarmouth was a prime example of that important element of yacht cruisingflexibility. Seven yachts set out and four arrived over two days, with three being the casualties of first cruise mechanical problems. The weather played its role with gusty north easterlies throughout but at least there was sunshine. We had pre-booked berths which was fortunate as the harbour was full by 4.00pm. Yarmouth offeredplenty to entertain members on the busy bank holiday weekend with different musical groups performing on the Green close to the marina and a classic car rally for the petrol-heads among us. Karma and Boni left on Sunday for work and a family Solent cruise respectively. We were joined for Sunday lunch at the Royal Solent Yacht Club by the crew of Silver Girl who arrived by ferry! As ever, the RSYC produced a lovely meal in wonderful surroundings. Although very much a Yacht Club, a visit is always relaxed and enjoyable with very friendly staff and great food. The threatened strong north-easterlies arrived in the evening and with the harbour open in that direction it was a bumpy and noisy night. Leaving Shogun to join Boni for a Solent cruise, Seraphim departed for Portland early on Monday and had a memorable sail in sunshine with a fair wind, arriving in time for a late lunch. Did the cruise go to plan? No, but they rarely do but it was a great success as our CCSC cruises usually are. Roll on the next one.
